Lemna Polishing Reactor (LPR)
The Lemna Polishing Reactor (LPR) provides effective and affordable supplemental BOD removal and ammonia nitrogen (NH3-N) polishing for pond-based municipal and industrial wastewater treatment facilities. The LPR is an upflow, attached-growth reactor. Using well-proven attached-growth media technology, the LPR enhances the growth of nitrification bacteria that biologically oxidize ammonia in an aerobic environment.
The Lemna Polishing Reactor can be used as a stand-alone package treatment system for low loaded/small flow applications, or as an add-on to existing treatment processes. The LPR has proven to be an economical and reliable solution for achieving stringent effluent limits. Whether added as a final polishing step for supplemental BOD removal, or for ammonia nitrogen (NH3-N) removal, the LPR is often the most cost-effective tertiary treatment process available.
Easy to operate
The Lemna Polishing Reactor was designed for simple operation, requiring virtually no operational interface. A small positive displacement blower is all that is needed to deliver aeration and mixing to the reactor.
Low energy consumption
With no internal moving parts and efficiently aerated fixed film attached growth media, the energy cost to operate the LPR is minimal.
Flexible design
The reactor can be economically sized to handle flows from 20,000 gpd to 2,000,000 gpd. The process allows for a wide range of influent BOD and ammonia loadings.
